We're building the future of privacy-first subletting, protecting both hosts and tenants every step of the way.
I was one step away from paying for a place that didn't exist.
Last summer, I was heading to Chicago for a summer internship and needed a place to live for a few months. Like so many others in that situation, I spent months searching—scrolling through listings, comparing options, trying to find something that felt right.
Eventually, I found what looked like the perfect place—great location, beautiful photos, reasonable price. Everything checked out… or so it seemed.
I was just about to hit “send” on the payment.
But something made me pause.
I decided to double-check the address. It didn't exist. The photos? Completely fabricated. The listing that looked so real—in the exact area I wanted—was entirely fake.
It was a scam.
That moment changed everything.
I realized how easy it is to get caught in that trap—especially when you're on a tight timeline, in a new city, and trying to secure a place sight unseen. I knew I couldn't be the only one going through it.
There had to be a better way.
So I built it.
SafeSublet was born out of necessity—a platform designed to make subletting simple, transparent, and secure for everyone. Every feature exists for a reason: to protect renters, support hosts, and remove the uncertainty from the process.
Because finding a place to live—even for a few months—shouldn't come with doubt.
It should feel safe.
